FIRST
READING:
Sirach 24:
17 - 21
17
As the vine I have brought forth a pleasant odour: and my flowers are
the fruit of honour and riches.
18
I am the mother of fair love, and of fear, and of knowledge, and of
holy hope.
19
In me is all grace of the way and of the truth, in me is all hope of
life and of virtue.
20
Come over to me, all ye that desire me, and be filled with my fruits.
21
For my spirit is sweet above honey, and my inheritance above honey
and the honeycomb.
PSALM:
Luke 1:
46 - 50, 53 - 54
46
And Mary said: My soul doth magnify the Lord.
47
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48
Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold
from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49
Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is
his name.
50
And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear
him.
53
He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent
empty away.
54
He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy.
GOSPEL:
Luke 1:
26 - 38
26
And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a
city of Galilee, called Nazareth,
27
To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of
David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
28
And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the
Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29
Who having heard, was troubled at his saying, and thought with
herself what manner of salutation this should be.
30
And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace
with God.
31
Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth a son;
and thou shalt call his name Jesus.
32
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the most High; and
the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father; and
he shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever.
33
And of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34
And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done, because I know
not man?
35
And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shall come upon
thee, and the power of the most High shall overshadow thee. And
therefore also the Holy which shall be born of thee shall be called
the Son of God.
36
And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her
old age; and this is the sixth month with her that is called barren:
37
Because no word shall be impossible with God.
38
And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me
according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

FIRST
READING:
1 Corinthians
9: 16 - 19, 22 - 27
16
For if I preach the gospel, it is no glory to me, for a necessity
lieth upon me: for woe is unto me if I preach not the gospel.
17
For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my
will, a dispensation is committed to me:
18
What is my reward then? That preaching the gospel, I may deliver the
gospel without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
19
For whereas I was free as to all, I made myself the servant of all,
that I might gain the more.
22
To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak. I became all
things to all men, that I might save all.
23
And I do all things for the gospel's sake: that I may be made
partaker thereof.
24
Know you not that they that run in the race, all run indeed, but one
receiveth the prize? So run that you may obtain.
25
And every one that striveth for the mastery, refraineth himself from
all things: and they indeed that they may receive a corruptible
crown; but we an incorruptible one.
26
I therefore so run, not as at an uncertainty: I so fight, not as one
beating the air:
27
But I chastise my body, and bring it into subjection: lest perhaps,
when I have preached to others, I myself should become a castaway.
PSALM:
Psalms 84:
3 - 6, 12
3
My soul longeth and fainteth for the courts of the Lord. My heart and
my flesh have rejoiced in the living God.
4
For the sparrow hath found herself a house, and the turtle a nest for
herself where she may lay her young ones: Thy altars, O Lord of
hosts, my king and my God.
5
Blessed are they that dwell in thy house, O Lord: they shall praise
thee for ever and ever.
6
Blessed is the man whose help is from thee: in his heart he hath
disposed to ascend by steps,
12
For God loveth mercy and truth: the Lord will give grace and glory.
GOSPEL:
Luke 6:
39 - 42
39
And he spoke also to them a similitude: Can the blind lead the blind?
do they not both fall into the ditch?
40
The disciple is not above his master: but every one shall be perfect,
if he be as his master.
41
And why seest thou the mote in thy brother's eye: but the beam that
is in thy own eye thou considerest not?
42
Or how canst thou say to thy brother: Brother, let me pull the mote
out of thy eye, when thou thyself seest not the beam in thy own eye?
Hypocrite, cast first the beam out of thy own eye; and then shalt
thou see clearly to take out the mote from thy brother's eye.
