Sunday Mass Readings For June 10, 2012
FIRST READING:
Exodus 24: 3 - 8
3
Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the
ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said,
"All the words which the LORD has spoken we will do."
4
And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD. And he rose early in the
morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve
pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.
5
And he sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt
offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the LORD.
6
And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of
the blood he threw against the altar.
7
Then he took the book of the covenant, and read it in the hearing of
the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will
do, and we will be obedient."
8
And Moses took the blood and threw it upon the people, and said,
"Behold the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with
you in accordance with all these words."
PSALM:
Psalms 116: 12 - 13, 15 - 18
12
What shall I render to the LORD for all his bounty to me?
13
I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD,
15
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
16
O LORD, I am thy servant, the son of thy handmaid. Thou hast loosed
my bonds.
17
I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the
name of the LORD.
18
I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.
SECOND READING:
Hebrews 9: 11 - 15
11
But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that
have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made
with hands, that is, not of this creation)
12
he entered once for all into the Holy Place, taking not the blood of
goats and calves but his own blood, thus securing an eternal
redemption.
13
For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and
bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification
of the flesh,
14
how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal
Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience
from dead works to serve the living God.
15
Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are
called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death
has occurred which redeems them from the transgressions under the
first covenant.
GOSPEL: Mark
14: 12 - 16, 22 - 26
12
And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the
passover lamb, his disciples said to him, "Where will you have
us go and prepare for you to eat the passover?"
13
And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them, "Go into the
city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him,
14
and wherever he enters, say to the householder, `The Teacher says,
Where is my guest room, where I am to eat the passover with my
disciples?'
15
And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there
prepare for us."
16
And the disciples set out and went to the city, and found it as he
had told them; and they prepared the passover.
22
And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it,
and gave it to them, and said, "Take; this is my body."
23
And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them,
and they all drank of it.
24
And he said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is
poured out for many.
25
Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine
until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."
26
And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Daily Mass Readings for Saturday, June 09, 2012
"The Widow's Mite" -- by James Tissot |
FIRST READING:
2 Timothy 4: 1 - 8
1
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is to
judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:
2
preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince,
rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching.
3
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching,
but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers
to suit their own likings,
4
and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths.
5
As for you, always be steady, endure suffering, do the work of an
evangelist, fulfil your ministry.
6
For I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my
departure has come.
7
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept
the faith.
8
Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which
the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not
only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
PSALM:
Psalms 71: 8 - 9, 14 - 17, 22
8
My mouth is filled with thy praise, and with thy glory all the day.
9
Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my
strength is spent.
14
But I will hope continually, and will praise thee yet more and more.
15
My mouth will tell of thy righteous acts, of thy deeds of salvation
all the day, for their number is past my knowledge.
16
With the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD I will come, I will praise thy
righteousness, thine alone.
17
O God, from my youth thou hast taught me, and I still proclaim thy
wondrous deeds.
22
I will also praise thee with the harp for thy faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to thee with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel.
GOSPEL: Mark
12: 38 - 44
38
And in his teaching he said, "Beware of the scribes, who like to
go about in long robes, and to have salutations in the market places
39
and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at
feasts,
40
who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They
will receive the greater condemnation."
41
And he sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the multitude
putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums.
42
And a poor widow came, and put in two copper coins, which make a
penny.
43
And he called his disciples to him, and said to them, "Truly, I
say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are
contributing to the treasury.
44
For they all contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her
poverty has put in everything she had, her whole living."

Daily Mass Readings for Thursday, June 07, 2012
FIRST READING: 2
Timothy 2: 8 - 15
8
Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descended from David, as
preached in my gospel,
9
the gospel for which I am suffering and wearing fetters like a
criminal. But the word of God is not fettered.
10
Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they
also may obtain salvation in Christ Jesus with its eternal glory.
11
The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we shall also live with
him;
12
if we endure, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he also
will deny us;
13
if we are faithless, he remains faithful -- for he cannot deny
himself.
14
Remind them of this, and charge them before the Lord to avoid
disputing about words, which does no good, but only ruins the
hearers.
15
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman
who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
PSALM:
Psalms 25: 4 - 5, 8 - 10, 14
4
Make me to know thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.
5
Lead me in thy truth, and teach me, for thou art the God of my
salvation; for thee I wait all the day long.
8
Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the
way.
9
He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.
10
All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness, for
those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.
14
The friendship of the LORD is for those who fear him, and he makes
known to them his covenant.
GOSPEL: Mark
12: 28 - 34
28
And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one
another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, "Which
commandment is the first of all?"
29
Jesus answered, "The first is, `Hear, O Israel: The Lord our
God, the Lord is one;
30
and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with
all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.'
31
The second is this, `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There
is no other commandment greater than these."
32
And the scribe said to him, "You are right, Teacher; you have
truly said that he is one, and there is no other but he;
33
and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding,
and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is
much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."
34
And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You
are not far from the kingdom of God." And after that no one
dared to ask him any question.
