FIRST READING: Revelation 5: 1 - 10

1 And I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals;

2 and I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?"

3 And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it,

4 and I wept much that no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it.

5 Then one of the elders said to me, "Weep not; lo, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals."

6 And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders, I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth;

7 and he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne.

8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of

incense, which are the prayers of the saints;

9 and they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy art thou to take the scroll and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and by thy blood didst ransom men for God from

every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

10 and hast made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on earth."

2 At once I was in the Spirit, and lo, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne!

3 And he who sat there appeared like jasper and carnelian, and round the throne was a rainbow that looked like an emerald.

4 Round the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clad in white garments, with golden crowns upon their heads.

5 From the throne issue flashes of lightning, and voices and peals of thunder, and before the throne burn seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God;

6 and before the throne there is as it were a sea of glass, like crystal. And round the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind:

7 the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like a flying eagle.

14 But his citizens hated him and sent an embassy after him, saying, `We do not want this man to reign over us.'

15 When he returned, having received the kingdom, he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading.

16 The first came before him, saying, `Lord, your pound has made ten pounds more.'

17 And he said to him, `Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.'

18 And the second came, saying, `Lord, your pound has made five pounds.'

19 And he said to him, `And you are to be over five cities.'

20 Then another came, saying, `Lord, here is your pound, which I kept laid away in a napkin;

21 for I was afraid of you, because you are a severe man; you take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.'

22 He said to him, `I will condemn you out of your own mouth, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a severe man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow?

23 Why then did you not put my money into the bank, and at my coming I should have collected it with interest?'

24 And he said to those who stood by, `Take the pound from him, and give it to him who has the ten pounds.'

25 (And they said to him, `Lord, he has ten pounds!')

26 `I tell you, that to every one who has will more be given; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

27 But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.'"

28 And when he had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

3 Remember then what you received and heard; keep that, and repent. If you will not awake, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you.

4 Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white, for they are worthy.

5 He who conquers shall be clad thus in white garments, and I will not blot his name out of the book of life; I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.

6 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'

18 Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may be rich, and white garments to clothe you and to keep the shame of your nakedness from being seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.

19 Those whom I love, I reprove and chasten; so be zealous and repent.

20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

21 He who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.

9 And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham.

1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants

what must soon take place; and he made it known by sending his angel to his

servant John,

2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ,

even to all that he saw.

3 Blessed is he who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and blessed are

those who hear, and who keep what is written therein; for the time is near.

4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him

who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are

before his throne,

1 "To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: `The words of him who holds

the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden

lampstands.

2 "`I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you

cannot bear evil men but have tested those who call themselves apostles but are

not, and found them to be false;

3 I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and

you have not grown weary.

4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.

5 Remember then from what you have fallen, repent and do the works you did

at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place,

unless you repent.

40 And Jesus stopped, and commanded him to be brought to him; and when

he came near, he asked him,

41 "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, let me receive my

sight."

42 And Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well."

43 And immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God;

and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
