FIRST READING: Romans 4: 20 - 25
20
In the promise also of God he staggered not by distrust; but was
strengthened in faith, giving glory to God:
21
Most fully knowing, that whatsoever he has promised, he is able also
to perform.
22
And therefore it was reputed to him unto justice.
23
Now it is not written only for him, that it was reputed to him unto
justice,
24
But also for us, to whom it shall be reputed, if we believe in him,
that raised up Jesus Christ, our Lord, from the dead,
25
Who was delivered up for our sins, and rose again for our
justification.

And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, in the house of David
his servant:
70
As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, who are from the
beginning:
71
Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us:
72
To perform mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy testament,
73
The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, that he would grant
to us,
74
That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him
without fear,
75
In holiness and justice before him, all our days.

And one of the multitude said to him: Master, speak to my brother
that he divide the inheritance with me.
14
But he said to him: Man, who hath appointed me judge, or divider,
over you?
15
And he said to them: Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for a
man's life doth not consist in the abundance of things which he
possesseth.
16
And he spoke a similitude to them, saying: The land of a certain rich
man brought forth plenty of fruits.
17
And he thought within himself, saying: What shall I do, because I
have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18
And he said: This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and will
build greater; and into them will I gather all things that are grown
to me, and my goods.
19
And I will say to my soul: Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for
many years take thy rest; eat, drink, make good cheer.
20
But God said to him: Thou fool, this night do they require thy soul
of thee: and whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?
21
So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards
God.
