"Jerusalem Jerusalem" -- by James Tissot |
FIRST READING: Romans 8: 31 - 39
31
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who is
against us?
32
He that spared not even his own Son, but delivered him up for us all,
how hath he not also, with him, given us all things?
33
Who shall accuse against the elect of God? God that justifieth.
34
Who is he that shall condemn? Christ Jesus that died, yea that is
risen also again; who is at the right hand of God, who also maketh
intercession for us.
35
Who then shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall
tribulation? or distress? or famine? or nakedness? or danger? or
persecution? or the sword?
36
(As it is written: For thy sake we are put to death all the day long.
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.)
37
But in all these things we overcome, because of him that hath loved
us.
38
For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
nor might,
39
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to
separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
21
But thou, O Lord, do with for thy names sake: because thy mercy is
sweet. Do thou deliver me.
22
For I am poor and needy, and my heart is troubled within me.
26
Help me, O Lord my God; save me according to thy mercy.
27
And let them know that this is thy hand: and that thou, O Lord, hast
done it.
30
I will give great thanks to the Lord with my mouth: and in the midst
of many I will praise him.
31
Because he hath stood at the right hand of the poor, to save my soul
from persecutors.
31
The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him:
Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee.
32
And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils,
and do cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I am consummated.
33
Nevertheless I must walk today and tomorrow, and the day following,
because it cannot be that a prophet perish, out of Jerusalem.
34
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets, and stonest them
that are sent to thee, how often would I have gathered thy children
as the bird doth her brood under her wings, and thou wouldest not?
35
Behold your house shall be left to you desolate. And I say to you,
that you shall not see me till the time come, when you shall say:
Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
