"Suffer the Little Children to Come unto Me" -- by James Tissot |
FIRST
READING: James 5:
13 - 20
13
Is any of you sad? Let him pray. Is he cheerful in mind? Let him
sing.
14
Is any man sick among you? Let him bring in the priests of the
church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the
name of the Lord.
15
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick man: and the Lord shall
raise him up: and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16
Confess therefore your sins one to another: and pray one for another,
that you may be saved. For the continual prayer of a just man
availeth much.
17
Elias was a man passible like unto us: and with prayer he prayed that
it might not rain upon the earth, and it rained not for three years
and six months.
18
And he prayed again: and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought
forth her fruit.
19
My brethren, if any of you err from the truth, and one convert him:
20
He must know that he who causeth a sinner to be converted from the
error of his way, shall save his soul from death, and shall cover a
multitude of sins.
PSALM:
Psalms 141:
1 - 3, 8
1
I have cried to the, O Lord, hear me: hearken to my voice, when I cry
to thee.
2
Let my prayer be directed as incense in thy sight; the lifting up of
my hands, as evening sacrifice.
3
Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth: and a door round about my lips.
8
But o to thee, O Lord, Lord, are my eyes: in thee have I put my
trust, take not away my soul.
GOSPEL:
Mark 10:
13 - 16
13
And they brought to him young children, that he might touch them. And
the disciples rebuked them that brought them.
14
Whom when Jesus saw, he was much displeased, and saith to them:
Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for
of such is the kingdom of God.
15
Amen I say to you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as
a little child, shall not enter into it.
16
And embracing them, and laying his hands upon them, he blessed them.
