FIRST
READING: Sirach
35: 1 - 12
1
He that keepeth the law, multiplieth offerings.
2
He shall return thanks, that offereth fine flour: and he that doth
mercy, offereth sacrifice.
3
To depart from iniquity is that which pleaseth the Lord, and to
depart from injustice, is an entreaty for sins.
4
Thou shalt not appear empty in the sight of the Lord.
5
For all these things are to be done because of the commandment of
God.
6
The oblation of the just maketh the altar fat, and is an odour of
sweetness in the sight of the most High.
7
The sacrifice of the just is acceptable, and the Lord will not forget
the memorial thereof.
8
Give glory to God with a good heart: and diminish not the firstfruits
of thy hands.
9
In every gift shew a cheerful countenance, and sanctify thy tithes
with joy.
10
Give to the most High according to what he hath given to thee, and
with a good eye do according to the ability of thy hands:
11
For the Lord maketh recompense, and will give thee seven times as
much.
12
Do not offer wicked gifts, for such he will not receive.
PSALM:
Psalms 50:
5 - 8, 14, 23
5
Gather ye together his saints to him: who set his covenant before
sacrifices.
6
And the heavens shall declare his justice: for God is judge.
7
Hear, O my people, and I will speak: O Israel, and I will testify to
thee: I am God, thy God.
8
I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices: and thy burnt offerings
are always in my sight.
14
Offer to God the sacrifice of praise: and pay thy vows to the most
High.
23
The sacrifice of praise shall glorify me: and there is the way by
which I will shew him the salvation of God.
GOSPEL:
Mark 10:
28 - 31
28
And Peter began to say unto him: Behold, we have left all things, and
have followed thee.
29
Jesus answering, said: Amen I say to you, there is no man who hath
left house or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or
children, or lands, for my sake and for the gospel,
30
Who shall not receive an hundred times as much, now in this time;
houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and
lands, with persecutions: and in the world to come life everlasting.
31
But many that are first, shall be last: and the last, first.
