"The Man with the Withered Hand" -- by James Tissot |
FIRST
READING: Colossians
1: 24 -- 2:
3
24
Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up those things
that are wanting of the sufferings of Christ, in my flesh, for his
body, which is the church:
25
Whereof I am made a minister according to the dispensation of God,
which is given me towards you, that I may fulfill the word of God:
26
The mystery which hath been hidden from ages and generations, but now
is manifested to his saints,
27
To whom God would make known the riches of the glory of this mystery
among the Gentiles, which is Christ, in you the hope of glory.
28
Whom we preach, admonishing every man, and teaching every man in all
wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
29
Wherein also I labour, striving according to his working which he
worketh in me in power.
1
Therefore, if you be risen with Christ, seek the things that are
above; where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God:
2
Mind the things that are above, not the things that are upon the
earth.
3
For you are dead; and your life is hid with Christ in God.
PSALM:
Psalms 62:
6 - 7, 9
6
For he is my God and my saviour: he is my helper, I shall not be
moved.
7
In God is my salvation and my glory: he is the God of my help, and my
hope is in God.
9
But vain are the sons of men, the sons of men are liars in the
balances: that by vanity they may together deceive.
GOSPEL:
Luke 6:
6 - 11
6
And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the
synagogue, and taught. And there was a man, whose right hand was
withered.
7
And the scribes and Pharisees watched if he would heal on the
sabbath; that they might find an accusation against him.
8
But he knew their thoughts; and said to the man who had the withered
hand: Arise, and stand forth in the midst. And rising he stood forth.
9
Then Jesus said to them: I ask you, if it be lawful on the sabbath
days to do good, or to do evil; to save life, or to destroy?
10
And looking round about on them all, he said to the man: Stretch
forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth: and his hand was restored.
11
And they were filled with madness; and they talked one with another,
what they might do to Jesus.
