Job 9:
1 - 12, 14 - 16
1
And Job answered, and said:
2
Indeed I know it is so, and that man cannot be justified compared
with God.
3
If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one for a thousand.
4
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath resisted him,
and hath had peace?
5
Who hath removed mountains, and they whom he overthrew in his wrath,
knew it not.
6
Who shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof
tremble.
7
Who commandeth tile sun and it riseth not: and shutteth up the stars
as it were under a seal:
8
Who alone spreadeth out the heavens, and walketh upon the waves of
the sea.
9
Who maketh Arcturus, and Orion, and Hyades, and the inner parts of
the south.
10
Who doth things great and incomprehensible, and wonderful, of which
there is no number.
11
If he come to me, I shall not see him: if he depart I shall not
understand.
12
If he examine on a sudden, who shall answer him? or who can say: Why
dost thou so?
14
What am I then, that I should answer him, and have words with him?
15
I, who although I should have any just thing, would not answer, but
would make supplication to my judge.
16
And if he should hear me when I call, I should not believe that he
had heard my voice.
PSALM:
Psalms 88:
10 - 15
10
All the day I cried to thee, O Lord: I stretched out my hands to
thee.
11
Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? or shall physicians raise to
life, and give praise to thee?
12
Shall any one in the sepulchre declare thy mercy: and thy truth in
destruction?
13
Shall thy wonders be known in the dark; and thy justice in the land
of forgetfulness?
14
But I, O Lord, have cried to thee: and in the morning my prayer shall
prevent thee.
15
Lord, why castest thou off my prayer: why turnest thou away thy face
from me?
GOSPEL:
Luke 9:
57 - 62
57
And it came to pass, as they walked in the way, that a certain man
said to him: I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
58
Jesus said to him: The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air
nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
59
But he said to another: Follow me. And he said: Lord, suffer me first
to go, and to bury my father.
60
And Jesus said to him: Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou, and
preach the kingdom of God.
61
And another said: I will follow thee, Lord; but let me first take my
leave of them that are at my house.
62
Jesus said to him: No man putting his hand to the plough, and looking
back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
